The Mitchell Car Company of Racine, Wisconsin achieved considerable success in the early years - producing well engineered cars under the slogan 'The car you ought to have, at the price you ought to pay'.
Full of quality early American fittings, the car was a cut above the norm and with its seven-seater coachwork and 248.8 cu in (4,010cc) six-cylinder engine, offered huge ability at an affordable price.
Like so many around that time, Mitchell decided to produce a V8, but when this proved expensive and troublesome, they quickly reverted to a robust six-cylinder side-valve engine of generous proportions which saved the day.
A dating letter from Mike Worthington-Williams on file states that it was built in 1918 but has a slightly later engine fitted, a common occurence on these cars as the early C42s had oiling issues which were soon solved with replacements being supplied under guarantee.
The body looks pretty complete, but needs much of the woodwork restored, although lots of fittings are present including the hood frame, screen dash, tank and four wings. Brian had the car up and running soon after acquiring it in 2012 from Tuckett brothers who had imported it from a gent in Kansas.
