1966 Rover P6 2000
Only 38,700 miles indicated which seems likely to be correct; in storage from 1983 - 2007 and barely used since; original handbooks and service book; a proper little timewarp!
Sold new by RH Collier & Co Ltd of Birmingham in January 1966, this Rover 2000 had one local owner up until 1983 by which time it had covered 36,400 miles as shown by various old MOTs and six service stamps in the book. A bill of sale shows that in March 1983 it was acquired by Atlas Garage of Bordesley Green and it seems that shortly after this the car was put into storage where it was to remain for the next 24 years.
The story picks up again in April 2007 when the car passed another MOT at 37,735 miles. It was then MOT’d again in 2012, 2017 and 2019 by which time the mileage had risen to 38,983 although we suspect that this was an error by the tester and it should have been 38,683 because the odometer now shows 38,716 miles.
Our vendor acquired the car about 5 years ago and applied for a new V5C which records no previous owners. He recommissioned the car which included a brake overhaul, various new hoses, a new battery and a new set of tyres. It was then used as bridal transport at his daughter’s wedding before being put back into storage once more.
Since arriving on site the car has been starting promptly and running well when revved, although we did note that it was not running quite so smoothly at low revs so it would clearly benefit from a good service. Although the low mileage cannot be guaranteed, it seems quite plausible given the overall condition of the car and the documentation on file.
