1931 Morgan Supersports
Purchased by our vendor in 2006 in the USA as a rolling project; extensive rebuild since; now fully UK/road registered; on B-type chassis
The Morgan Three-Wheeler Club have confirmed after an inspection, that chassis number M593 first rolled out of the Malvern factory in 1931.
Little is known of its early life until it turned up in Canada during the 1990s. The paperwork records at least three owners in the USA, including Ted Buckland, Stephen Glenn of San Francisco and Walt Kirby of Idaho, who sold it on to our vendor in the UK during 2006.
It remained a rolling chassis until at least 2007 when restoration commenced.
Firstly, the chassis was re-tubed by Cameron Engineering and Motorsport Ltd in 2008 for £609.
In 2009, the beetleback body was built by coachbuilder, Richard Williams of Malvern for £1,500 and the bonnet made by Tank and Radiator Co in Worcester. The tail is thought to be original.
Confirmation of identity was completed in 2010 by the Morgan Club and it was issued with 104 YUT in 2013.
Invoices on file show the purchase of numerous miscellaneous parts until the smart Blockley tyres were fitted in 2015.
The current correctly dated (but not original to the chassis) JAP engine was purchased in 2017 for £11,500 and converted to air cooled JTOR spec and fitted again by Cameron Engineering. Shortly after this, electronic ignition was fitted too.
Images on file and included here show what this Morgan looked like for a considerable time until it returned to the UK. A huge amount of work has been done since and appropriately all completed in and around its original home town of Malvern.
