1989 Peugeot 205 1.9 GTi
Hot hatch hero of
the '80s converted for track day use; current MOT
The Hot Hatch Hero of the ‘80s and arguably of the ‘90’s
too, the Peugeot 205 GTi has firmly cemented its place in the motoring hall of
fame. Blessed with superb handling and performance, it made a natural track car
and many have been converted for competition use – as is the case with this GTi
1.9.
First registered in March 1989, it has at some point been
rebuilt as a track day car. Although there are no invoices for the work carried
out, we are told that the engine was rebuilt with a lightened and balanced
bottom end; big valve head; Piper cam; vernier cam wheel; new cam belt and water
pump; twin-Dellorto carbs; new twin linkage and cables and new competition
engine mounts. We are told that it produces around 150bhp.
Other equipment includes Peugeot sport 2.5 coil overs;
adjustable rear shocks; strut brace; new Satch-shift gear stick and linkage;
brake bias valve; battery box and electric master switch; push button start
panel; OMP roll cage; Corbeau Seats with full harness belts; two spare wheels.
The windows are electric and still work as they should.
Starting promptly and running well as we have moved it
around on site, it has an MOT until February 2022 with just a couple of minor
advisories (‘no rear seats fitted; sill covers fitted; slight exhaust blow’). It
looks like a lot of fun for not a lot of outlay.
