Description
1990 Ford Bronco XLT (4th Gen)
A classic slice
of 90's Americana with its 5.0 V8 engine and removable rear roof section; a
really cool piece of kit
Dating from 1990, this
Ford Bronco hails from the 4th Generation, produced between ’87-’91
and was designed as a short-wheelbase version of 8th Gen Ford F150.
It utilised the previous Generation Bronco chassis with a host of updates to the
exterior including new lights, grill, wheel arch design, new bonnet etc and also
to the interior including a new dash, seats, controls and steering wheel amongst
others.
Under the ‘hood’ we find the 4.9 litre 302CUI Windsor V8 engine
driving all 4 wheels via 4-speed manual transmission with O/D. This example is
in XLT spec and features a lift-off rear section above the boot and rear
passengers and also features an electronic rear window which we managed to
operate from the key in the back door lock, but not off the button on the dash.
Inside, we also find the ignition which works with a key, and a starter toggle
that looks to have been retrofitted along with cruise control, A/C, electric
windows and additional front lights in set into the grill.
Starting
promptly as we moved the truck around for these shots and videos it felt good
and comfortable and ever so cool, although we did note a slight exhaust
blow.
The history file includes the V5C which shows the Bronco was
imported and registered in Yr.2000 by a serving US forces individual who gained
a Customs concession on import duty. Since then, its had just 3 keepers
including our enthusiast vendor who has enjoyed the truck, treating it
to chunky wheels and tyres, underbody protection, side steps and other
little bits. The history file also includes 17 old MOTs helping to back the
indicated mileage of 35,616 miles up (although we suspect this might be 135,616
given the speedo re-sets at 99,999 miles and it showed 07408 miles at MOT test
in 2002.
The current MOT is valid until December 2022 and recorded 5
advisories for a headlamp lens slightly defective, exhaust minor leak (the blow
we mentioned), minor oil leak, slight PAS seepage and corrosion to a seat belt
anchorage point.
A cool truck that will likely make you feel like a hero,
or maybe Steve Stiffler from American Pie every time you drive it and certainly
one that will turn heads and make people smile.
