1925 Daimler Landaulette Limousine 25/85 Type
Extensive restoration; evidence of being a taxi and possible links to transporting Winston Churchill while campaigning for government; bought recently for a wedding and now available again; fitted with a Triumph 2,498cc engine; beautiful looking car with modern reliability...
Presented here is a very rare, long wheelbase limousine which has spent a considerable part of its life on the English Riviera of Bournemouth and Torquay.
When it still had its original 25HP engine, it was registered as a Hackney Carriage during the 1920s/30s in these areas. It is quite possible that it continued to be under the Taxi class until 1960s and it is alleged that it was the very Daimler that transported Sir Winston Churchill and his wife, while campaigning for elections. A photograph within the file shows Mr and Mrs Churchill aboard what certainly looks like a very similar car, if it is not indeed the same one.
Little is known about the mid-life of this Daimler, but at some point the engine was replaced with a classic Triumph 2,498cc unit which has been professionally fitted and bolted to the existing gearbox. This of course gives the vehicle modern reliability with plenty of available spares backup.
In 2004, the car was subject to a lengthy and costly restoration by Fairweather Restorations in Norfolk, most of which has been recorded by photographs. The interior looking particularly smart with its rope beading, brass screws, Bedford cord and Shetland claret hides. Externally, the body has been sprayed with black over a regal shade of red.
Many period features are still present including the very smart rear luggage rack, the sliding central glass division and the lifting rear section of the roof. Our vendor bought the car relatively recently in 2018, specifically for his daughter’s wedding. Now that its duty has been completed, BF 7849 is now available once again.
