1998 Porsche Boxster 2.5 (986)

Two owners and just 37,867 miles; extended Savannah leather; recent clutch, IMS and other essential preventative work undertaken

Supplied new by JCT-600 Ltd of Newcastle in May 1998 this earlier 986 series Boxster features the venerable 2.5 litre flat-six which develops 201bhp and is driven here, through the sweet 5-speed manual gearbox, the preferred choice of many. Finished in desirable Arena Red (L84S), black mohair hood with wonderfully contrasting Savannah (SP) tan leather interior (983) it rides on smart 17inch Carrera Twist staggered fitment alloy wheels (396). The interior options fitted to this example include half electric seats, centre console (581), air conditioning (573), front cassette compartment (421), storage box under the bonnet (584), extended leather dash and door panels (981), on-board computer (659) and retro fitment modern CD player with Bluetooth and USB.

Showing just 37,867 miles in the hands of only two owners, this is example is one to buy and cherish with great investment potential - low mileage, low owner earlier 986 Boxsters are now few and far between. In our vendor's hands since 2016 when he bought the car ahead of a trip to Southern Italy with just over 31,000 miles recorded from its first owner he set about doing everything he could to ensure the car would be up to the journey. This included replacement of the IMS bearing (just in case), clutch and flywheel, both air-con radiators and a thorough service - he was well placed as a Classic Car specialist engineer. The trip went without a hitch, the car proving trouble free and most adept at tackling Italian autostradas and mountain passes. Seeing little use after this trip it remained in storage for a couple of years before being used again lightly through 2019 and a little again this year.

The history file includes V5C, owner's pack and service book showing 8 entries and 6 stamps, the last by Cranmore GT in April 2019 at 35,542 miles which includes 6 new plugs and 6 coil packs after being in storage for a couple of years. In addition we also have some 11 old MOTs on file along with a fresh MOT running until October 2021 with no advisories recorded.

Starting promptly and running well at the time of our photographs the car, as far as we can see wants for nothing but some more regular use. Buyers please note, a small can of touch up paint has been included by the vendor after spotting a small area of paint reaction on the rear soft top deck, likely caused by a reaction to rather irksome and acidic bird poo (see image) at some point.

986 Boxsters are very usable, great to drive, easy to live with and surprisingly practical with a great owners club scene and eligible for classic insurance policies there’s every reason to bid and enjoy one yourself.
